Is athlete's foot contagious?
Yes. It spreads in moist environments, such as public showers or around swimming pools. It can also spread to other parts of the body if a person touches the affected foot and then touches other parts of the body, such as their hands.
How do you get athlete's foot?
Going barefoot in hot, humid places like locker rooms or public pools can expose your feet to the fungi that thrive in those environments. Sweaty shoes and socks add to the moisture, and can make the infection worse. Using towels, sheets, clothes, or shoes that have been worn by someone else who has athlete's foot can also spread the infection.
