What are the signs and symptoms of athlete's foot?
Athlete's foot often causes redness, flaking, peeling, or cracking of the skin on the feet. It can cause itching, burning, stinging, or just a feeling of discomfort.
It usually appears on the soles of the feet, the areas between the toes, and sometimes the toenails. If the nails are affected, they become thick, white or yellowish and brittle.
What is the cause of athlete's foot?
Athlete's foot is caused by fungi called dermatophytes that normally live on the skin, hair and nails. When the environment in which they live becomes warm and humid, they grow uncontrollably and begin to cause symptoms.
