5 tips for taking care of your feet in the face of cold and humidity

Foot & ankle specialists

It is very likely that in winter the feeling of cold will settle on your extremities. The feet are, surely, the part of the body that copes worst with low temperatures. Since the cold hinders the peripheral circulation, that is, the one that reaches the extremities, our feet and hands feel numb and with less sensitivity. That is why we must take extreme care of the feet and observe them if we feel any itchy feet or strange sensations.

So that you can manage the health and care of your feet correctly, here are some tips to have healthy feet in winter:

1. The use of very thick socks is not always the most appropriate, even if it is cold. Wear cotton or breathable socks.

2. After washing and drying, apply a specific deodorant for feet, especially in the spaces between toes. In addition to offering a cooling and relieving sensation, if the deodorant has ingredients with antibacterial and antifungal action, you will create an adverse environment for the proliferation of microorganisms, helping to prevent athlete's foot, and will provide a good smell.

3. Take off your shoes when you get home. After all day locked in shoes, the foot needs to regain its shape, free itself and air out. Foot ventilation is key to avoiding odor.

4. Be sure to air out your footwear, too. You can also apply foot deodorant on the inside of footwear. Also keep in mind that it is convenient to change your shoes several times a week.

5. Avoid direct sources of heat, such as stoves or hot water bottles. If your feet feel cold and you are at home, it is preferable that you take a foot bath with warm water and, once dry, put on warm socks.
