Causes of corns on the sole of the foot

As we have already advanced, plantar keratoses, commonly known as corns on the sole of the foot, consists of the thickening of the most superficial layers of the skin of this part of the body.

The main cause of corns on the sole of the foot is the friction or constant pressure that occurs in this area, which activates a skin protection mechanism that causes this thickening due to the increase in dead cells in the plantar area. especially in the heels and metatarsal region.

But how does friction occur in this part of the foot? Next, we will explain what factors influence the appearance of hardness on the sole of the foot:

Use of inappropriate footwear: shoes that are too tight or with a narrow toe can exert more pressure than normal on our feet, favoring the appearance of these calluses. Also those shoes that do not offer adequate cushioning can favor the formation of calluses on the sole of the foot.

Not wearing socks regularly: some people prefer to wear closed shoes without socks, but this habit favors friction and greater pressure on the foot, giving rise to calluses in the area.

Incorrect foot support: an incorrect footprint or not supporting the foot well due to the type of footwear we use, for example heels, can exert more pressure on one region of the foot than another when walking can increase the plantar hardness.

Lack of hydration in the foot: dehydration of the skin is a factor that favors the accumulation of flakes and dead cells, especially in the heels.

Certain foot conditions: People with bunions, hammer toe, or other conditions are more likely to develop plantar keratoses.
