We tell you what are the causes and symptoms of flat feet

Causes
Flat feet occur because the tissues that support the joints in the foot become weak.

As children grow, the tissues tighten and form the plantar arch, around two or three years of age.

"Aging, being overweight, injuries or a disease can cause damage to the tendons and cause a flat foot to develop", clarifies Torralba Estellés.

As Juan Dios points out, there are numerous causes of flat feet, although “the most frequent are abnormal positions of the joints and that the forces that act on the foot when walking or standing exceed the structures in charge of maintaining height. Of the arc". Other causes are "the fusion of two or more bones of the foot, diabetic neuropathy, some neurological pathologies, arthritis or trauma," among others, she points out.

Symptoms
Most flat feet are painless, although there are times when flatfoot pain in children is caused by the tarsal coalition, a condition in which two or more bones in the foot grow together or fuse together.

In the case of adults, pain will appear after prolonged periods of overusing the foot or playing sports.

According to Nieto, other related symptoms can be:

Arthritis. Joint inflammation can occur in people with flat feet due to stress on the joints. Arthritis can arise in the ankles, knees, and hips secondary to flat feet.

Tendinitis Inflammation of the tendons can occur as Achilles tendonitis (inflammation of the Achilles tendon) and posterior tibial tendonitis (inflammation of the posterior tibial tendon)

Plantar fasciitis. Inflammation of the ligaments on the soles of the feet.

Bunions It is a bony protrusion that forms at the joint at the base of the big toe.

Callus formation. This is thickened skin on the surface of the soles of the feet that occurs due to poor weight distribution.
