My feet swell in summer. Why? What do I do?

The heat causes vasodilation, that is, it causes the veins of the return circulation to enlarge and then they cannot do their role of venous return well.

In this way, if there are no problems in the venous return, of the circulation of the feet upwards, more fluid accumulates in the lower part of the body and the swelling that health professionals call edema occurs.

"Even the train tracks dilate in summer", so swelling in the feet is quite common, also in healthy people. That is why, if what causes edema is heat "we should try to avoid it." "The ideal is not to spend a lot of time in the sun, or in a lot of heat and seek refuge in the air conditioning or in cool spaces." In addition, it is recommended to take baths in cold water. Or at least, put your feet and legs. Because yes, it is true. It is not a matter of mothers or grandmothers. Activates circulation. "Cold water acts as a vasoconstrictor, makes the veins reduce their size and facilitates return circulation", thus helping to prevent so much fluid from accumulating in the "lower" part of the body, the feet.
