Pediatric Flatfoot: Diagnosis

For the diagnosis of flat feet, the foot and ankle doctor examines the foot and observes its shape when the child stands up and when it sits. The doctor also watches how the child walks and assesses the range of motion of the foot. Because flat feet are sometimes linked to leg problems, the doctor also examines the knee and hip.

X-rays are usually taken to determine the severity of the deformation. Additional diagnostic imaging and other tests are sometimes ordered.
