Your provider will perform a physical exam and ask questions regarding your medical history and symptoms such as the following:

Have you had this type of heel pain before?

When did the pain start?

Do you have pain after the first steps in the morning or after the first steps after rest?

Is the pain dull and persistent or sharp and stabbing?

Does it get worse after exercising?

Does it get worse when standing?

Have you recently fallen or sprained your ankle?

Are you an athlete? If so, how far and how often do you run?

Do you walk or stand for long periods of time?

What kind of shoes do you wear?

Do you have other symptoms?

Your provider may order an X-ray of the foot. You may need to see a physical therapist to learn how to stretch and strengthen your foot. Your provider may recommend a splint at night to help you stretch your foot. Surgery may be recommended in some cases.
