Is mycosis of the nail contagious?

Nail mycosis can be passed from one person to another, but this form of transmission is rare. Sharing sandpaper or nail cutter can be a mode of transmission, but in general, frequent and intimate contact is necessary, for example, people who live in the same house and acquire onychomycosis from each other. Mycosis of the nail is not acquired simply by shaking hands or touching objects manipulated by someone infected.
