Bunion Treatment

When a bunion is just beginning to develop, you can do the following to care for your feet:

-Wear footwear with ample toe space. This can often solve the problem and avoid the need for further treatment.

-Use felt or foam insoles on the foot to protect the bunion or devices, called interdigital spacers, to separate the first and second toes. These are available at pharmacies.

-Try drilling a hole in a pair of comfortable old shoes to wear around the house.

-Talk to your specialist doctor about whether you need insoles to correct flat feet.

-If the bunion gets worse and hurts more, surgery may help. Bunionectomy surgery realigns the finger and removes the bony protrusion. There are over 100 different surgical procedures to treat this condition.
