Heel Pain Causes
Very often, heel pain is the result of overload. However, it can be caused by injury.
The heel can be swollen or tender due to:
-Shoes with insufficient support or cushioning
-Run on hard surfaces like concrete
-Running too often
-Rigidity in the muscles of the calf or the Achilles tendon
-Sudden turn of your heel in or out
-Landing violently or awkwardly on the heels
Conditions that can cause heel pain include:
-Achilles tendon swelling and pain
-Hinchazeon of the fluid-filled sac (pouch) at the back of the heel bone under the Achilles tendon (bursitis)
-Bone spurs on the heel
Swelling of the thick band of tissue on the bottom of the foot (plantar fasciitis)
-Fracture of the heel bone that is related to a very hard landing on the heel as a result of a fall (calcaneus fracture)
