Treat the fungus on the nails
1. - Apply a menthol ointment. - You can buy one without any prescription to help eliminate fungi. One study showed that daily application of a menthol ointment for 48 weeks can be as effective as topical treatment options such as 8% ciclopirox.
To treat nail fungus with a menthol ointment, first make sure your nail is clean and dry. Apply a small amount of the ointment on the affected area daily with your finger or a cotton swab, preferably at night. Continue the treatment for 48 weeks.
2. - Use tea tree oil. - This oil is a natural antifungal. A study showed that tea tree oil can be effective for the treatment of nail fungus. 18% of patients who used tea tree oil twice a day for 24 weeks got rid of the infection. To treat nail fungus with tea tree oil, use a 100% solution, since it has been shown that lower concentrations are not effective for this particular infection.
3. - Test with the leaf extract of black snake root. - In a study that included 110 people, the black snake root extract proved to be as effective as topical treatment options. To use this method, apply the extract every three days for 4 weeks, then twice a week for the next 4 weeks and finally once a week for the next 4 weeks.
4. - Avoid incidents in the future. - There are many situations that put you at a higher risk of infection. You will run a high risk if you are older, have diabetes, have a damaged immune system or have poor circulation. If you are at high risk, you should take special care to avoid infection. Preventive measures include wearing shoes or sandals when you are in wet public places such as swimming pools or gyms, keeping your nails trimmed and clean, making sure your feet are dry, and drying them after bathing.
