
Rehabilitation exercises for ankle sprain
Treatment of Foot and Ankle
First phase, first 72 hours: ABSOLUTE REST with the foot raised. Application of the bandage that the physician creates more convenient according to degree, elevation and local cold.
Second phase: RELATIVE SLEEP: From 4 to 7 days according to degree of sprain. You can start progressive support with crutches, slowly according to tolerance to pain, not to force. You can use ankle brace with laces or semirigid ankle orthosis sold in orthopedic. An alternative are functional or elastic bandages. Start isometric exercises.
Third phase: from 15 days use compression or ankle compression, better with pronator band and eversora of the forefoot until the symptoms disappear completely. Continue strengthening exercises and from the 3-4 weeks proprioceptive exercises. Do not play sports until after 4-6 weeks.
