How to prevent Ingrown toenails
Foot & ankle specialists
Ingrown toenails are those nails whose edges are inserted inside the finger, causing inflammation and redness around it and often even pain. It can also cause an infection.
To avoid this problem it is essential to know the causes:
Wear too tight shoes that compress the toes, increasing the pressure on them. High-heeled shoes usually meet this condition: finished in a point or with a very narrow toe box.
Sometimes a shoe that is too wide can also encourage the nail to become ingrown.
Improperly cutting the nails: leaving rounded edges or cutting them too short.
Pull out nails instead of cutting them.
Any foot or toe deformity.
Having nails that are curved downward or too thick or large for the size of the fingers.
Injuries with crushing of the finger.
